Kia Revealed More Details of the 5th-Gen 2022 Sportage
It will hit the showrooms before the end of this year.
Nearly a month ago, the South Korean automaker Kia introduced the fifth-generation Sportage with a revolutionary design and now the company has disclosed its technical data and features. Keep in mind we are talking about the 2022 Sportage global model boasting a longer wheelbase. Europe will receive it in a shorter-wheelbase.
According to data, the new Sportage is 4660 millimeters (183.5 inches) long, 1865 mm (73.4 in) wide, and 1660 mm (65.3 in) tall. The compact crossover stands at a wheelbase of 2755 mm (108.4 in). The company says the new platform has made it possible for them to enhance the headroom, legroom, and cargo capacity (637 liters), which are the industry-best in its class.
The power would come from a turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline mill good for 177 horsepower and 265 Newton-meters (195 pound-feet) of torque. The engine mates to either a standard six-speed manual or a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic.
If you still favor burning diesel for commutes, Kia has a new 2.0-liter diesel engine generating 183 hp and 417 Nm (308 lb-ft). The mill exclusively pairs with an updated eight-speed automatic transmission, so you can’t have it in manual.
Kia also intends to offer other gasoline and diesel models as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants boasting E-Handling. The complete engine range will be revealed before the introduction. We expect the hybrids would be the same as we find in the new Hyundai Tucson.
The 2022 Sportage also gets a new Terrain Mode including Drive, Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Smart drive modes allowing you to select the mode according to the terrain such as mud, sand, and snow. There is a new electronic control suspension with real-time damping control operating amicably with the electronically controlled AWD system for the most favorable power distribution.
Those who prefer the compact crossover with a more rugged exterior have the liberty to buy the X-Line variant. It is an off-road visual pack basically emphasizing its sturdy nature. Sporty look lovers can have the new Sportage in GT-Line flavor.
Exterior and Interior
Kia has made available a range of alloy wheels, from 17-inch to 19-inch, featuring distinct styles, colors, and finishes. Inside, we find a couple of 12-inch displays – a completely digital instrument cluster and the infotainment’s touchscreen. Other changes include a neater shift-by-wire transmission dial for the automatic and an available Harman Kardon sound system.
The 2022 Sportage will hit the showrooms before the end of this year. The European model will be available later on.
