2022 Mercedes EQS Comes With A Stylish Design, 770km Range, Hyperscreen, and More
It will hit the UAE roads sometime this year or early next year.
Mercedes-Benz entered the EV market after nine years Tesla proved the electric vehicles can be gorgeous and pleasing. The company’s electric flagship, the 2022 Mercedes EQS is the first EV under EQ emblem offering 770 kilometres (478 miles) of range on the WLTP cycle, an innovative cabin, and a record-destroying 0.20 drag coefficient. Apart from being the most aerodynamic series-production vehicle ever sold, it is the first from Mercedes to contain MBUX Hyperscreen. It consists of three screens – an instrument cluster, centre infotainment centre, and auxiliary passenger-side touchscreen – all of them resting behind a big glass dashboard.
Trim Levels and Power
The automaker offers the 2022 Mercedes EQS in just two variants, both using a 108.7-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery to propel. The base EQS 450+ features a single electric motor installed on the rear axle generating 329 horsepower and 406 pound-feet (245 kilowatts and 550 newton-meters).
The more powerful EQS 580 4MATIC has two motors (one on each axle) powering all the wheels, yielding 516 hp and 611 lb-ft (385 kW and 828 Nm). Mercedes says, this powertrain takes the full-size luxury sedan from 0 to 96 kph in just 4.1 seconds.
Drive Range and Battery Recharge
With a predicted WLTP range of 770 kilometres (478 miles), the 2022 Mercedes EQS becomes the highest drive-range vehicle on the market. Analyzing it against the Tesla Model S Long Range, the EQS offers 99 more miles.
Such a long range has been possible only with assistance from aerodynamics. The designers did an exceptional job to design it with a drag coefficient of 0.20, which is the lowest for any series production car in the world.
Regarding battery charging, the 2022 Mercedes EQS can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 35 minutes only using a 110-kW DC fast charger. Use a 240-volt home wall box and it will take around 11 hours to charge, excellent for off-peak all-night charging. Mercedes will take help from public charging providers as well to augment its charging outlets.
Looking at the 2022 Mercedes EQS, we see the automaker has spent a great deal of time designing the flagship electric sedan. From the dedicated all-electric platform, slippery styling to a “one-bow” shape and frameless windows, it comes with a host of unique features.
Perhaps the most exciting thing about the 2022 Mercedes EQS is MBUX Hyperscreen – a 56-inch-wide curved glass encompassing three split OLED touchscreens. Those who do not like this innovative screen can opt for a single 12.8-inch centre touchscreen together with a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
