Toyota Introduces Supra 2.0 for the American Markets
This offering does not only make Supra more affordable, but also the lightest ever.
So, we were right about the four-cylinder Supra for the U.S. Toyota unveiled the Supra 2.0 for the American markets as the basic variant and also added more power to the Supra 3.0. This offering does not only make Supra more affordable but also the lightest ever.
As evident, the standard turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine will be standard and the inline-six is the range-topper now. The 2.0-liter engine churns out 255 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque. It mates to the old eight-speed automatic, which is available for the six-cylinder model, as well. The powertrain enables the Supra 2.0 to sprint from zero to 96 km/h in 5.0 seconds only. The top speed is limited to 250 km/h.
The lighter engine enabled Toyota to shave off 91 kilograms (200 pounds) of weight from the Supra six-cylinder variant. Now it has a curb weight of 1,442 kilograms. To reduce its weight, the engineers had to drop the four-piston caliper brakes for single-piston rotors, and the active differential and active suspension for a fixed setup. There are some other tweaks as well such as the removal of the 14-way power seats.
The 2021 Supra also offers the new Safety and Technology package, which includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, parking sensors, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, a 12-speaker audio system, and so on. All these facilities are standard on the Supra 3.0.
Toyota did not reveal the price of the new Supra. The 2020 Supra 3.0 costs AED 229,000 here, and we expect a price increase for 2021 MY, if we get the updated version. The four-cylinder model will obviously be cheaper. We would love to have it here in the UAE.
