Nissan Ariya Concept May Spawn an Electric SUV
It also boasts Nissan’s ProPilot 2.0 autonomous system.
Nissan burst onto the scene at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show with Ariya Concept, a midsize crossover EV, which we believe will spawn a production model in the near future. The EV features Nissan Intelligent Mobility that involves everything from connectivity to self-driving technology.
If you have covered or followed the 2017 Tokyo Show, you may feel the Nissan Ariya concept has similarities with Nissan’s IMx concept. You can see wide fenders, thin LED lights, and Nissan’s familiar V-Motion grille. The wheels are 21-inch alloys, and there is a single taillight at the back.
The interior looks futuristic yet straightforward with minimal buttons. The driver can control everything from the touchscreen. It also boasts Nissan’s ProPilot 2.0 autonomous system. The EV can accommodate five passengers.
Nissan didn’t reveal much about the powertrain and its performance figures except information about its electric motors. There will be two, one at each axle, delivering power to two or all the wheels depending on the conditions and the selected driving mode.
“Nissan has a clear vision of global mobility. The Ariya Concept is just the beginning, as Nissan considers how design, packaging, and driver enjoyment can be transformed through the architecture of new EV platforms,” stated Yasuhiro Yamauchi, representative executive officer for Nissan. “The Ariya Concept is not a concept car designed from far off ideas, but rather a car that embodies Nissan Intelligent Mobility at its core and highlights a promise of an entirely new driving experience on the horizon.”
