The sister company of BMW Group, Mini might turn into a dedicated EV brand in the future, reported Automobile. So far, Mini only introduced one electric car, i.e., Mini Cooper SE, which debuted last month with 114 miles of range.

The report reveals, the automaker plans to a skateboard-design platform to accommodate the powertrains. Furthermore, we have heard the introduction of a new downsized Mini.

In 2018, BMW Group showed its willingness to create electric Minis in China with the cooperation of Great Wall Motors. Although we are not sure when these electric cars may arrive by 2023. Taking the same path as BMW Group, Daimler has joined hands with Geely to turn its Smart brand into a dedicated EV brand. Smart electric cars will be exclusive to China.

Whether electric Minis will also be produced outside China is still a mystery.
