2020 Bentley Flying Spur Debuts With New Design and More Luxury Features
Bentley will open its order books in the last quarter of this year.
After some teasers, Bentley has officially unveiled the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur. Seeing all the details, we must say the designers and engineers have surpassed our expectations in every department. The automaker has designed it from the ground up; the new design, an all-new platform, new tech, and more luxury facilities – all make it the world’s most advanced luxury Grand Touring sports sedan.
Entering its third generation, it is the sedan sibling of the Continental GT coupe. The MSB architecture, available in Continental GT, is stretched to give a longer wheelbase. It measures 208.8 inches with a 5.1 inches extension, thus provides more legroom for rear occupants. Some people might feel it looks similar to the previous model but Bentley says it is a completely new design with improved road presence.
There is no doubt, the all-new 2020 Bentley Flying Spur takes most of its styling cues from the Continental GT but they have improved every aspect of it. The LED matrix headlights and 21-inch wheels are standard while Mulliner spec cars will get 22-inch wheels.
The huge panoramic glass sunroof makes the package more costly. Bentley has made the “Flying B” icon retractable and it even illuminates. The automaker is offering it in 17 colors with bright chrome or black finish for the lower grille. The chrome accents on the headlights make them shine even when not illuminated. At the rear, the taillights display illuminated graphic.
On the inside, the customers would be able to choose from 15 hide colors for the seats. They would also find an industry-first three-dimensional diamond quilted leather on the door cards. On the dashboard, we see a rotating 12.3-inch touchscreen, which can stay concealed behind the veneer unit. The panel displays three analog dials including a chronometer, compass, and a temperature display. The 2020 Flying Spur comes with a 10-speaker sound system while the 16-speaker, 1,500-watt Bang & Olufsen setup or the 19-speaker, 2,200-watt Naim system is optional.
Powering the all-new 2020 Bentley Flying Spur is an updated twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine. Also available in the Bentayga Speed, it pumps out a mighty 626 horsepower (467 kilowatts) and 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of torque. The engine is mated to a dual-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission. The automaker has vastly improved the engine, making it quicker on its toes. It can hit 100 km/h in only 3.8 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 333 km/h. Be mindful, the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur is a very heavy sedan; it weighs 2,435 kilograms (5,368 pounds).
The automaker has made the car sportier and also offers All-Wheel Steering (AWS), which is a first for a Bentley. This makes city driving easier for such a big sedan.
The ride quality would also be better thanks to multiple tweaks in driveline and suspension. The updated variable dampers retain 60% extra air by volume for more refined luxury and sporty travel.
Bentley will open its order books in the last quarter of this year. The pricing details aren’t revealed yet. The wealthy customers will start receiving their luxury sedans early next year.
