General Motors Bestows Continental Tire the GM 2018 Supplier of the Year Award

The award was given at the annual GM Supplier of the Year awards ceremony in Detroit.


General Motors (GM) has honored Continental – the premium German tire and technology firm – with the GM 2018 Supplier of the Year award for their innovative tires that surpass expectations. This is the third time in four years that Continental Tire received this award. The award was given at the annual GM Supplier of the Year awards ceremony in Detroit on 15th May.

“We hold our suppliers, such as Continental to a high standard,” said Steve Kiefer, GM Senior Vice President, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “They went above and beyond to deliver the innovations and qualities that will help us earn customers for life.”

“General Motors puts a great deal of effort in their collaboration with suppliers,” said Jeff Klei, President of Continental North America. “We appreciate the active involvement from all levels within GM to foster an open dialogue with the supplier community.”

Every year, GM recognizes its best suppliers through its analyzing team which consists of officers from different departments. They use specific criteria to gauge the performance of their suppliers. They take into account performance in Product Purchasing, Global Purchasing and Manufacturing Services, Customer Care and Aftersales, and Logistics.

“Our team is honored to accept the GM 2018 Supplier of the Year award, and I am personally very proud of the work our people do to provide GM with the quality products and services,” stated Dr. Juan Botero, Vice President of key account management for Original Equipment Passenger and Light Trucks for Continental Tire the Americas. “We are grateful for the partnership we have with GM and look forward to continuing that relationship.”

Continental is one of the biggest providers of tires to General Motors in the U.S., Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, South Korea, and China. The vehicles made by GM come to all parts of the world including the Middle East.
