2019 Honda Civic Type R Introduced with $36,595 Price Tag
Honda did not update the powertrain.
The Japanese automaker has introduced the 2019 Honda Civic Type R on Thursday with a number of updates. With these changes, the hot hatch will cost $36,595, which is $1,000 more than the previous model. The 2018 Type R sells at $35,595 including destination.
Seeing the exterior of the 2019 Honda Civic Type R, we do not notice many changes. However, Honda says customers will benefit from different interior updates, most of which are aimed at technology and connectivity. The infotainment system now has a physical volume nob and the HVAC system gets the buttons now. The boosted voice recognition, altered steering wheel controls, bigger cupholders, and a parking brake indicator light are some of the updates customers will enjoy in the new model. Moreover, the customers now have a choice of an additional color in the form of Sonic Pearl Grey.
Honda did not update the powertrain and we think it is a good move. The 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 pumps is an award-winning engine. It creates 306 hp channeled to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The adaptable suspension remains the same as well. To provide the best handling for different driving conditions, it has Comfort, Sport, and +R modes.
With the new model, we expect to have new Type R accessories. Honda also has plans to offer new Civic Type R variants with an all-wheel drive and tuned-up powertrains.
