McLaren Speedtail is a $2.2M Hyper GT
It will hopefully hit the road in 2020
McLaren has introduced the spiritual successor to the iconic F1 with a central driving position yesterday. The fastest McLaren road car to date, the McLaren Speedtail will be limited to only 106 units with a starting price tag of $2.2 million.
Bear in mind, the “hyper GT” isn’t your everyday hypercar as it is big with 202.8 inches in length. Moreover, there are no side mirrors, which means it will not be legal to drive in the U.S.
To save the weight, McLaren used carbon fiber in the structure and the body while the suspension is created with aluminum mostly. That said, the hypercar will not be light on the road owing to its hybrid powertrain, the details of which are still a mystery. We are expecting a 4.0L twin turbo V8 along with a couple of electric motors.
Similar to F1, the driver will sit in the middle with two passengers taking seats beside him. There are three digital screens on the dash along with 2 extra screens showing the rear view of the car.
McLaren is currently building the Speedtail and expects it will cover 186 mph in only 12.8 seconds on its way to the top speed of 250 mph, which would make it 10 mph faster than the fastest F1. This huge power would be possible as the car chooses the Velocity mode.
The McLaren Speedtail will hopefully be seen on the road in 2020. The car will provide customers with a high level of customization options.
