The refreshed 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata is bound to arrive soon and reports indicate it is likely to receive a power bump.

The report comes from Road and Track which states that the 2019 Miata will be delivering 181 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft of torque. That is definitely a significant increase compared to the 2018 Miata which produces 155 horsepower. However, it is still unclear whether the increased power output will come from the current 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit or Mazda is going to add a new unit.

Nevertheless, rumors suggest the engine will receive modifications including lighter pistons, lighter connecting rods, higher rpm as well as a new crankshaft. Moreover, the intake and exhaust ports will be enlarged and the camshaft will be revised. A new throttle bottle will also be added. This information suggests the automaker might be considering adding upgrades to the existing engine instead of developing a new one.

Other expected changes on the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata include a rearview camera, telescopic steering wheel, and Mazda’s Smart City Brake Support system. Also, the automaker plans to remove the CD player.
