Abandoned Cars Risk Hefty Fines in Dubai
Dubai is joining in Abu Dhabi's initiative against abandoned cars left on its streets.
The Waste Management Department of Dubai municipality has initiated a campaign to create awareness about abandoned cars on the streets and avoid risking heavy fines.
People who leave the country for vacations or just abandon their vehicles for one reason or the other could face the risk of impounding their vehicles along with municipal fines, storage charges and towing fee.
As of the start of 2016, municipal inspectors have issued over 37,347 warnings and 4,930 vehicles have been impounded as owners failed to take the necessary action.
The owners of cars that are left abandoned for longer periods will be charged Dh1,381 in municipal fines, towing fee and storage charges.
The Director of the Waste Management Department, Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Al Saifaie, stated that we provide owners 6 months’ time before we auction the impounded cars. The owners must pay the penalties if they want to reclaim their vehicles.
